This session will focus on product line architecture. How do you capture functional requirement, QoS requirements, Business Requirements etc..for products? This session will also focus on practice of architecture process for developing product reference architectures and applying them to align change within the enterprise. How to combine architecture frameworks with development lifecycle within the organization for developing Business, Architecture, Technology and Data models. Discussion about set of architecture artefacts that are required for describing varying degrees of detail exactly what and how a business operates and what resources are required.

Day 2: 26th Feb' 10
Panel Discussion I - Does architecture result in ROI or Overhead?
What is the typical IT architecture related investments? Who will be more eager to fund an architecture initiative? Is CEO or CFO? Who is more likely to appreciate the value of architecture?
 • Is it possible to measure architecture ROI on project basis? Or is it only
applicable on a long term, multiple projects, portfolio basis.
 • Architecture is a powerful tool for CFOs to mitigate risk in long term? Or is it a
strategic tool for CEOs for market competitiveness?
 • What are some of the tangible and intangible benefits of architecture?
 • How do we measure architecture benefits such as:
 • Modifiability
 • Risk Mitigation
 • Avoiding Technology Obsolescence
 • How easy to estimate the investments on series of "current", "intermediate" and
 "target" reference architectures
 • Does ROI calculation is just a value-based approach to implementing enterprise
architecture when the team is first being formed. And it may not have a serious
 long term concerns?
 • How easy to calculate
 • If the current architecture is meaningful and adding value to the
 organization?
 • How might architecture be modified so that it adds more value to the
 organization?
 • Readiness of the architecture to support what organization wants to
 accomplish in the future

Remember, several organizations that have been successful with their architecture initiatives have done so without spending much on ROI calculation. They just felt that having a proper structure is fundamental to survival of their burgeoning IT systems and of course survival of organizations as well. Remember the slogan, JUST DO IT …;-).

See you at the conference!
